These next 2 weeks we were challenged to have no opinions.  I knew that I would have to wait to start this challenge after the Presidential Elections because this was a very electrifying year that would determine the direction our country would take by the candidate that would win.

What is the Mental Diet?

It is for seven days I must not allow myself to dwell for a single moment on any kind of negative thought.  By dedicating seven consecutive days of solely developing this new habit is the most significant week in my whole life; nothing can possibly remain the same.

So what is considered negative thinking?

As quoted in ‘The Seven Day Mental Diet’ by Emmet fox “a negative thought is any thought of failure, disappointment, or trouble; any thought of criticism, or spite, or jealousy, or condemnation of others, or self-condemnation; any thought of sickness or accident; or, in short, any kind of limitation or pessimistic thinking.

How is it possible to reframe from thinking negative thoughts?

Well, according to the Law of Substitution as one of the Seven Laws of the Mind, we cannot think about 2 things at the same time.  If a negative thought enters your mind, try to think about God instead.  Jesus said in Matthew 5:39, “That ye resist not evil, but whosoever smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also”…so just turn from a negative thought and think of something else.  The mind is created in such a special way that it cannot contain two thoughts at one time.  A person can be aware of the negativity around her, but yet not be part of it through the Law of Substitution.

Love is the greatest weapon of all negativity.  Love applauds your enemies and they become your friends.  Love is not critical but builds bridges around hearts so that your love can enter their soul.  By reacting with love for others no matter what they do or say, we repulse the arrows of hate and the spears of anger. This is a good example of how to use the Law of Substitution.

Why is controlling negative thoughts important?

It comes down to ‘choice.’  I choose all the conditions of my life when I choose the thoughts which I allow my mind to think about.  It is imperative to train myself to choose my thoughts as my thoughts lay the groundwork for success in every area of life.  It becomes ever clearer why the scriptures state, “We are transformed by the renewing of our minds.”     After all, all thoughts have a destiny as previously described in my last blog.  When we control our thoughts, we control our destiny.

Onward and upward,
